We must not neglect so great a salvation.
Heb 2:1-4 “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?”
The importance of the words of Holy Scripture.
Every word in the Bible is important, no word is unimportant, no word should be passed over lightly or ignored. The second word in this passage is a very important little word. By using the word we, the writer makes it plain that he is writing to brothers and sisters in the faith. This is an admonition written to believers, we know that because the writer included himself; thus we.
Also, notice that the writer does not tell us to not reject the Word, but tells us to not neglect the Word. Believers did not reject the Word but they may neglect the Word, to their own peril. When we neglect God’s Word we will drift from God and will eventually deny His authority over every aspect of our lives. We will do things contrary to his will.
The slippery slope
We let the Word of God slip from our minds and we slip. We will not be eternally lost; God will chastise us and bring us back. But, oh so much better not to slip and be punished. We cannot neglect Bible study, prayer, and fellowship with impunity. How can we stay in Christ if we stay not in the Word; He shall slip from our minds as surely as you forgot the name of your favorite first-grade teacher or something else that you once thought unforgettable.

Inheritance of the world to come. V 2:5 11:16
Entrance into glory as God’s adopted sons V 2:10
Purification from sins. V 1:3 2:11, 17
Freedom from the fear of death. V 2:14, 15
The privilege of drawing near to God. V 4:16 10:22
The ability to offer worship that pleases Him. V 12:28 13:15-16
Are you a true believer?
If you are a believer, then you know that these things are true; You know that you have these great privileges. Do not neglect the Word and drift from what you know is true. You know it is true because it has been attested to by the signs and miracles done by Jesus. The Truth attested to be the apostles whom Jesus appointed to testify to his person. The Truth revealed by the Holy Spirit through the very Word of God.
John 1:1-4 n the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Do not let these precious truths slip from your heart and mind. Stay in the Word.
